Sydney Laneways 2009, Australia—No. 30

This was a stinker of a day, so hot. So, I only made it to one laneway.

Another tower in the fairy tale and a G for GT

I was hungover and this doorway was offensive

Photos reflect what people think of you
Eyes are windows to souls
Photos are windows into souls
They capture an idea of beauty
Art expresses thoughts
The connection with the intangible mind
Creativity is the purpose
To make the soul visible
Projections outside of the inside

Sydney Laneways 2009, Australia—No. 29

James Lane
I've always liked the name James. There was a lot of contrast in this lane.

The pattern here I thought was cool, because it's someone else's natural pattern, painting glue for a sign.

A message I read, my message to someone now.

This next image I thought would make an awesome flyer for a club or bar. The texture and writing are just so cool. It's a section from a garage door.

The ground was all damp from dripping air conditioning units.
I started to cough.

A man at the top of the building fixing something.

And a couple of random shots.

Man with an orange mouth outside Customs House. Unfortunately I couldn't take a photo with his mouth but his drooping posture was of interest to me—like a wilted flower. It just occurred to me that orange is definitely a recurring theme. Also Customs House is one of the best places to meet in Sydney. There are always small exhibitions, such as the one on Michael Jackson recently from which I learnt that his song entitled 'Ben' was about a telepathic rat. There are lots of foreign newspapers so it's a good place to wait.

Random sign in a dive of a building, the door handle had an interesting enamel, nobbly finish.
I can't believe I'm up to laneway 30, alas only 18 left to visit in the laneway business development plan map.

What a day!

I can't wait to start a project in St Petersburg and I already know what my first project will be in London. Pibling you inspired me with your talk of views...

Druitt Lane
This was interesting because I walked into this laneway thinking, modern, uninspiring, but walked out with one of my favourite shots ever.

I'm in love with this image and I'm not quite sure why.

And I am rather partial to this one too. They both strike me as potential settings for modern versions of fairy tales, a lady in the tower below, an austere castle above.

Sydney Laneways 2009, Australia—No. 27

So yesterday, Thursday 19 November, I had the day off work, simply splendid spiffing. I booked it off to see Peter and Wolf at the Sydney Opera House. It was the best feeling ever, arising with a creative day ahead of me starting with playing my oboe, a few baroque pieces I am working on at the mo, and then to the city to immerse myself in laneways. I even did a merry jig in the middle of Customs House (poor Shirley) because I felt so full of joy.

Peter and the Wolf was brilliant (also lieutenant kije, the ugly duckling and piano concerto no 5). It took me back to being a child and I even shed a tear for the poor duck who got gobbled.

Laneway 27 Sands Street confirmed my interest in doors and I found a lovely battered leaf lying next to the pavement, it reminded me of how I've felt at times.

I find that I am divided in my purpose, to record on a mundane level the laneway in a very literal sense and then to record what I truly find beautiful, guess it doesn't matter. I do both.

For some reason the third image reminded me of an owl, the eyes.

An Ode to the Rollses

Lucie you are a true sweetheart
May you and Alex never be apart
Together you have a strong and loving past
Leaving no doubt that your union will last
I have known you for nearly seven years
Through which you've helped me with my tears
Your love and friendship has enabled me to see
Feelings that are natural but were hard for me
So thank you and I love you both very much
Your generous hearts myself and others touch
With you there is always laughter and fun
Plenty of stories, a squawk and a pun
Thank you for such a happy day
And that is all I'd like to say.

I feel a little shy that was the poem that came to me for Lucie and Alex's wedding. I was a bridesmaid with Julia. I cried, but it was happy crying too. It's so good to be out of the dark, thank you for being there LUJU xxx
